DEHRADUN- A GATEWAY TO HEAVEN

Discovering a place untouched by human onslaught has become a daunting task today.Those seeking a short respite from urban life can make there way to dehradun.

Like we all had done last year after our boisterous BDS final year exams.DEHRADUN is a perfect place to lie back, relax and enjoy the beautiful weather that the place boasts of almost the entire year.The hill resorts of dehradun has been popular since ages.The britishers were captivated by the climate of dehradun and turned it into their residential resort. They also set up several important institutions here.



Founded by GURU DRONACHARYA, according to the epic of mahabharta, dehradun is now declared as the provisional capital of UTTARAKHAND.Also known as the 'Adobe of Drona'.Nestled between the mountain range of Himalayas in the north,aging Shivalik hills in the south, the river Ganga in the east and the river Yamuna in the west.

TOURIST PLACE TO VISIT IN DEHRADUN :


The trip to dehradun was very different indeed for me and my friends.The weather of dehradun really rejuvenated us. the prime attraction of dehradun are following: 


FOREST RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Established as Imperial Forest Research institute in 1906,FRI is a premier institute in its field.FRI on the Kaulagarh road of dehradun trains forest
officers in india. it has six museums that displays the
best species of flora and fauna to be found in India.
Wood samples,insects,furniture,wildlife,few stuffed
animals(bengal tiger), library and book shop are the
other places you may check out.The latest movie 404 has been shot in FRI only.The place is full of nature.

INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY
IMA is the officer training school of the Indian Army. IMA was established in 1932.This is very near to FRI but u can see it from outside only due to security reasons.This institution had given numbers of army officers who had given their life for nation.


TAPKESWAR TEMPLE
The temple of lord shiva situated on the outskirts of city with a long flights of stairs to acsend. The best time to see this temple is during rainy season as in those days the drops of water is falling from roof of the temple.A picture perfect beauty,there is gushing river flowing by its sides that compliments the main temple and other shrines studding the area with its pleasant cool water. 


ROBBER'S CAVE
I can't forget this place,as me and my friends were almost got killed there.the picture on the left is from a daily local newspaper which explains little bit.But forget that experience, may be I write another blog for that.So this  place is situated near a village called Annarwala village. The best way to reach there is by taking the bus to the village and then stroll to the pace at a leisurely pace giving yourself time to take in the picturesque surroundings.This is a fabulous picnic spot.It is known for a strange phenomenon as a stream of water suddenly disappears from sight at a point and then reappears again a few meters ahead as a squally stream. 














SAHASTRADHARA


It is situated 14 km from the centre of the city.the best time to visit this place is in the rainy season when the stream proposes the appearence of agushing torrent.The mere sight of the gurgling waters fill one,s soul with a vitalising energy.these sulphur springs have long been credited with unique powers for certain diseases.People are coming from far off with their ailing ones in search of a natural cure.
















MALSI DEER PARK
A beautifully developed mini zoological park that lies at the foothills of shivalik range is on way to mussoorie.Dehradun is a home to neelgai, two horned deer and a variety of birds which makes it an ideal excursion site and attracts tourist of all age groups.Apart from deer you can see a wide variety of birds, 
tigers,peacocks,rabbits and neelgay.With all these animals it has a lovely natural surrounding that makes it a perfect picnic spot.

HOW TO REACH

BY AIR :  The nearest airport from Dehradoon is the jolly grant around 25 km from the heart of the city.There is a daily flight from Delhi, which is the nearest international airport.





BY TRAIN : Connected to almost all metropolitant cities of india.The shatabdi express is best known train for tourist coming from Delhi.there are also trains from lucknow, kolkota, mumbai and varanasi.


BY ROAD : Dehradun is well connected to other cities of Uttaranchal and Delhi with regular bus services.
